I know it’s not really the case, but there’s part of me that looks at my career transition from videogames/start-ups to a big medical device corporation as a form of “going legit”. Nothing about my previous jobs was illegitimate, really. It was all legal, above-board, and honest work. And by and large I worked on some really cool things that I’m really proud of (even if most of them never got “big”). But working for a big medical corp with billions-with-a-B annual revenue sure feels like someone would consider it more legitimate than the other stuff I’ve worked on.
