Hi, I’m Ted. I’m a BBQ pitmaster, handyman, music lover, game designer, UX enthusiast, and dad. I also write medical device software for a living.
Since you’re here, you’d probably like to know a little more about me. Here’s the story so far:
1990s-2000s
Grew up near the Hub of the Universe: Boston, MA.
2006-2010
Attended University of Pennsylvania, majored in Digital Media Design, spent a lot of time building theater sets and practicing my bartending skills, too.
2010
Graduated college, tried to start an educational social game studio called Tembo Studio. When that failed after 3 months, took a job as a software engineer at Zynga East in Baltimore
2012
Bit the bullet and moved to San Francisco. Got a job with another educational game studio called MindSnacks. Should have been doing software engineering, ended up doing project management.
2013
Burned out on San Francisco, moved to Oakland. Burned out on MindSnacks, took a job with Funomena making educational/health games.
2015
Got laid off from Funomena, started doing freelance game development. Released Cornucopia, a game about climate change.
2016
Gave in to gravity and moved to Boston
2017
Got a grant to start a games-for-health studio called Cognivive with my old client, Tony Simon. Raised a bunch of money to make it into a real-deal medical device company.
2018-2019
Traveled a lot, helped my girlfriend renovate her house, got married to said girlfriend.
2020
COVID shuts down Cognivive’s first clinical trial a week before it starts, then shuts down the whole company a half-year later.
2021
Started working for Vicarious Surgical, making UIs, simulations, and UX experiments for a surgical robot in Unity (…yep.)
2023-2024
Returned to freelancing and helped ship a hand-tracking update for The Last Clockwinder. Also spent a bunch of time renovating houses.
Present
Building UIs for Medtronic, still living near Boston, raising a daughter, and trying to be a good husband.
